Foundation Accepts Grant Applications

Now through March 16, we are accepting online grant applications from nonprofits serving children and families in need. We fund programs in the areas of Stable Homes, Stable Families; Foster Care & Adoption; and Academic & Career Success. We continue to be a committed investor, leader and partner in helping children and families thrive in the Washington, D.C., region.

Wednesday's Child Success Stories

The last 12 months have been filled with success stories for foster children who have found permanent homes thanks to Freddie Mac Foundation's Wednesday's Child, a national program to increase adoptions of foster children. Our Wednesday's Child sites and dedicated hosts wish you happy holidays and extend their thanks to everyone who has made these holidays special for so many children.

Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home Provides Housing and Support Services

Part of the Arlington, VA shelter Doorways for Women and Families, the Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home provides safe, temporary housing and intensive support services to homeless women and families within Arlington County and the DC region.

Freddie Mac and the Freddie Mac Foundation have once again been named the Washington, DC region's largest corporate giver by the Washington Business Journal. Freddie Mac, along with the Foundation, invested more than $25 million in 2007 to help children and families in the national capital region thrive.

Foundation Helps Launch Vivid Display of Support for "Forgotten Children"

"Forgotten Children," a dramatic event launched by National CASA Association and supported by the Freddie Mac Foundation aims to give voice to foster children nationwide while still preserving their privacy. Since underaged foster children cannot appear for themselves, life-sized, cut-out photos will take their place in the shadows of the Washington Monument on the National Mall this week – at the pace of 850 per day, which is how many children enter the system each day.

Foundation Helps Families Thrive in New Affordable Rentals

The Foundation recently joined AHC Inc., a nonprofit developer and owner of affordable housing in Northern Virginia, to open a nine-story building with 108 new apartments for low- and moderate-income residents. A $500,000 Foundation grant will expand needed resident services for families and children in this AHC property and others.

'HOUSE' Program to Keep Families Out of Homelessness

Reston Interfaith launched its new, innovative "Housing OpportUnities Strengthens Everyone" (HOUSE) program, made possible in part with a $500,000 investment by the Freddie Mac Foundation. Through HOUSE, 34 homeless families (128 individuals) will have access to town homes along with resident services with the goal of helping more vulnerable families stabilize their lives and stay in their homes.

Foundation Announces $800,000 Grant to End Homelessness

The Freddie Mac Foundation has announced an $800,000 grant to the National Alliance to End Homelessness. The investment enables the Alliance to help nonprofit organizations and public sector agencies in the District of Columbia, Fairfax County, Va. and Montgomery County, Md. to implement their ten year plans to end homelessness and adopt Housing First initiatives for homeless families.
