Foundation Joins President Bush To Launch National Adoption Day 2007
The National Adoption Day Coalition, an organization co-founded by the Freddie Mac Foundation, joined President George W. Bush at the White House to honor the annual nationwide celebration of adoption from foster care known as National Adoption Day and to celebrate more than 3,330 adoptions of children from foster care on National Adoption Day 2007.
In 1st Half '07 Foundation Invests More Than $2.5 Million
In the first half of 2007, the Freddie Mac Foundation invested in programs that strengthen and stabilize families and homes in the Washington, DC area by providing more than $2.5 million in funds for nonprofit organizations serving children and their families.
Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home Now Open for Women and Children
A $500K grant from the Freddie Mac Foundation as well as important contributions from Arlington County, HomeAid and NVHomes has made possible the newly built Doorways for Women and Children Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home to provide safe, temporary housing and intensive support services to many homeless women and families within Arlington County and the DC region.
Foundation Chair Addresses Human Services Coalition
Foundation Chairman Ralph F. Boyd, Jr. recently gave a keynote address to the Human Services Coalition of Northern Virginia annual luncheon. An event attended by local non-profit leaders and elected officials, this year's theme was: Business, Government, Nonprofits: Partners in Creating Stable Home, Stable Families. Boyd discussed the Foundation's work and direction as well as challenges facing the region.
Freddie Mac Named Finalist in Corporate Citizenship Awards
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce named Freddie Mac a finalist for its Corporate Citizenship Awards. Freddie Mac is being honored for its employee adoption benefits and for the Foundation's foster care and adoption work. The Foundation has helped find adoptive homes, or identified families, for more than 1200 children through Wednesday's Child – one of many ways the Foundation improves the lives of foster children.
Foundation Commits $1.1 Million to JC Nalle Community School
The Freddie Mac Foundation today announced a $1.1 million grant over the next 18 months to provide further support to JC Nalle Community School. This grant will continue and enhance the community school programming, which includes extended day, summer enrichment, Saturday school, mental and health services, and a parent university.
Foundation Funds Online Tool to Help Region's Families Move Out of Poverty
A growing number of the region's working families are struggling to meet the rising costs of even the most basic necessities including housing, child care and food. To help alleviate this, Wider Opportunities for Women has announced the availability of the DC area's first Self-Sufficiency Calculator, a new online financial counseling tool to help the region's most vulnerable families move out of poverty and gain financial independence. The innovative new tool is made possible by a $100,000 Foundation grant.
Foundation Makes Large Investment to Help New Orleans' Families
The Freddie Mac Foundation will continue its Katrina relief efforts by joining Freddie Mac in committing a combined $5 million to New Orleans. The Foundation's investment will focus on providing needed resident services for many low-to moderate-income families to stabilize their lives. The company and Foundation will make investments in organizations throughout the next year to support on-going, innovative and effective efforts.
Study Shows Savings in Properties With Resident Services
A report in part funded by the Freddie Mac Foundation and released by Enterprise Community Partners and Mercy Housing shows that resident services in affordable, family rental housing helps reduce operational costs related to turnover and nonpayment of rent as well as bring significant benefits to the residents of that housing property. The study found that affordable family properties with resident services outperformed similar properties without resident services in vacancy losses per unit, the cost of legal fees per unit, and the cost of bad debt per unit.
Foundation and Washington Nationals Help Region's Foster Children
Eating hot dogs and cheering for the home team is a pastime shared by many families, but for more than 6,000 foster children in this region special outings like these with a family of their own are only a dream. Last night, the Freddie Mac Foundation and the Washington Nationals recommitted their joint efforts to help remedy that. The Foundation and the Nationals will continue a partnership started nearly a year ago to help recruit adoptive families for more of our region's foster children as well as raise awareness of their plight.

So Others Might Eat (SOME) is best known for serving up to 900 meals each day to homeless individuals and families in the Washington, DC area. But SOME today is more than a food program, and offers job training, healthcare, family services and housing options. In fall 2005, SOME opened Independence Place, which provides supportive housing to 21 formerly homeless families and SOME Place for Kids at the same location. The Freddie Mac Foundation recently awarded a $400,000 grant to help Independence Place's younger residents prosper.

Foundation Gives Nearly $11M To Children And Families In 2nd Half '06
In the second half of 2006, the Freddie Mac Foundation continued to strengthen communities by awarding nearly $11 million thought 129 grants to organizations whose innovative programs help improve the lives of children and families, primarily in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The total amount of Foundation giving in 2006 equals $26.2 million. This amount includes all giving expenses, cash contributions, grants, and the matching of employee donations.
Foundation Helps Underserved Families Gain Financial Independence
With tax season underway, the Children's Defense Fund (CDF), a leading voice for vulnerable children and their families in America, will help thousands of low-to moderate income families across the country file their tax returns and recoup thousands in earned income tax and income tax credits. The efforts are made possible by a $750,000 Freddie Mac Foundation grant and are part of CDF's ongoing public education and financial literacy programs to help underserved working families move out of poverty and achieve long-term financial independence.

Foundation Supports First Lady Holtons's Launch of Foster Care Initiative
Virginia's First Lady Anne B. Holton has announced that foster care issues will be her major focus during her time as First Lady, and launched an initiative called "For Keeps" The initiative will partner with Virginia's human services agencies, the Freddie Mac Foundation, and other private organizations to find and strengthen permanent families for older children already in foster care or those at risk of entering the foster care system.
Darrell Green Youth Life Learning Center Receives a $50,000 Grant from Foundation
The Youth Life Foundation is the recipient of a $50,000 grant from the Freddie Mac Foundation for support of its educational program at the Darrell Green Youth Life Learning Centers (DGYLLCs) in the greater Washington DC area. The model program offers a youth development solution aimed at changing the educational achievement landscape for minority and underserved students. The program includes no-cost after-school and summer programs conducted at the DGYLLCs, most of which are located in high-crime, low-to-mid income urban areas.
Foundation Awards Grant to Healthy Families Howard County for Fifth Year
More than 2,750 families have benefited from Healthy Families Howard County since the program began in November 2001 to provide first-time parents with educational and emotional support during pregnancy and into the first five years of parenthood. For the fifth consecutive year, Healthy Families has received a $100,000 grant from the Freddie Mac Foundation to fund the operational costs of the program.
