Web Site Recruits People Ready to Change the Lives of Foster Children
As part of its ongoing efforts to offer a promising future to foster children
throughout the country, the Freddie Mac Foundation has funded FosterLinks.org,
a new Web site that features children in need of adoption and helps guide
people through the sometimes overwhelming process of helping improve the
lives of foster children. Visitors to the site meet foster children, learn
about the system in an educational section and explore different ways to
become involved in a foster child's life, including adoption. Links connect
to programs, grants and opportunities that are available throughout the

Grant Helps Childcare Center Serve At-Risk Children with Free Services
The Freddie Mac Foundation’s recent $450,000 grant – $100,000
more than the original commitment – to Child and Family Network Centers
(CFNC) helped make possible the newest CFNC site in the West End of Alexandria,
Virginia. With this newest site and the additional funding, CFNC now serves
204 very low-income families, representing a 47 percent increase in children
offered full day, nationally accredited preschool education and a range

Foundation Helps Finalize 3,400 Adoptions on National Adoption Day
The Freddie Mac Foundation helped sponsor National Adoption Day on
November 20. More than 3,400 children saw their dream
of a permanent family of their own became a reality, as
courts in communities all over the country opened their
doors to finalize their adoptions into loving families.

Study Analyzes Best Practices in, Barriers to Adoption Throughout Country
A study sponsored in part by the Freddie Mac Foundation provides
an unprecedented analysis of adoption from foster care in all 50
states and the District of Columbia. Foster Care Adoption in
the United States: A State by State Analysis of Barriers and Promising
Practices is the first research report to identify common barriers,
as well as promising practices, to foster care adoption in the United
States. The study, conducted by the Urban Institute and commissioned
by the National Adoption Day coalition, was released in recognition

Legend Isaac Hayes and Foundation Expand School Music Program
The Freddie Mac Foundation recently joined the Isaac Hayes Foundation to help fund
a school music program at J.C. Nalle Community School
in Washington, D.C. The Foundation’s latest grant
to J.C. Nalle’s music program is in addition to
an earlier grant to the Levine School of Music that helped
start a music program for J.C. Nalle’s youngest

Foster Children Enjoy a Day at the Big Apple Circus
To brighten the lives of foster children and support foster families, the Freddie
Mac Foundation recently took 1,000 local Washington, DC
foster children and their foster families to the Big Apple
Circus, New Yorks original one-ring, not-for-profit

D.C. Schools Superintendent Recognizes J.C. Nalles Accomplishment
D.C. School Superintendent made J.C. Nalle Elementary one of his first stops on the
first day of school. The superintendent noted the schools
accomplishments and praised its extensive partnership
with Freddie Mac and the Freddie Mac Foundation. »

Foundation and the Ad Council Work to Help Children
The Freddie Mac Foundation gave a $100,000 grant to the Advertising
Council. The grant will be used to support the Ad Councils
Commitment to Children, an initiative that focuses on creating public
service campaigns to better the lives of children. This grant places
the Foundation among the Ad Councils Leadership Circle, the
largest class of donors for the organization. »

Maryland Home Visiting Conference Supports Parents
The Freddie Mac Foundation sponsored Maryland's first annual Home
Visiting Conference in early June. Presented by Maryland Gov. Robert
Ehrlich, Jr. and Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, the event focused on integrating
home visiting with other early childcare and educational programs
to provide a continuum of care for Maryland families. »

Fairfax Futures Gets Boost from Foundation
Fairfax County government officials joined state government, civic
and business leaders in launching a nonprofit organization—Fairfax
Futures—dedicated to strengthening early childhood education
programs in the county. An early supporter, the Freddie Mac Foundation
presented Fairfax Futures with a planning grant of $60,000. »

Foundation Teams Up with Children's Hospital for Telethon
Children's National Medical Center (Children's Hospital) received
a grant from the Freddie Mac Foundation during WUSA Channel 9's
Children's Miracle Network Telethon in Washington, DC. The grant
will support the hospital's work, including its efforts to help
heal abused and neglected children at their Child and Adolescent

Freddie Mac Tops the List as a Corporate Philanthropist
Freddie Mac ranked first among Washington, DC area corporations
in its contributions to the community, according to the Washington
Business Journal. Overall, Freddie Macs philanthropic
givingwhich included Freddie Mac and Freddie Mac Foundation
contributionstotaled $49.8 million in 2003. Of this, nearly
$39.5 million went to make a difference in the Washington, DC region.

Foundation Teams Up with Redskins Leadership Council to Support Local Youth
Three hundred area youth were recognized for their hard work, dedication
and community spirit at the fourth annual Redskins All Stars Award
Ceremony. As the title sponsor, the Freddie Mac Foundation joined
the Washington Redskins Leadership Council in awarding grants to
youth organizations that are providing exceptional services to young

National League of Cities and Foundation Unite to Help Children
The National League of Cities (NLC) received a $75,000 grant from
the Freddie Mac Foundation recently to support a program entitled
the Freddie Mac Foundation Early Childhood Challenge. NLC is selecting
12 cities nationwide to receive technical assistance in developing
multi-year, strategic action plans that promote early childhood
success in their communities.

Foundation, First Lady of Va. Lisa Collis Honor Child Abuse Prevention Advocates
The Freddie Mac Foundation joined Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) of
Northern Virginia and the Allies in Prevention Coalition to honor
five individuals for their exceptional efforts to stop child abuse
and neglect in Northern Virginia at its second annual Allies in
Prevention Awards Luncheon. Sponsored by the Foundation, the event
kicked off this year’s Child Abuse Prevention Month. »

Foundation Gives $750,000 to Expand and Improve Child Care Facilities
The Foundation recently awarded a new three-year, $750,000 grant
to the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) to help address
the growing need for child care facilities in low-income communities.
Through its Community Investment Collaborative for Kids (CICK) program,
LISC works at the federal, state and local levels to generate new
sources of capital for child care facility construction and renovation.

Foundation Launches Wednesday's Child Adoption Program in Philadelphia
The Freddie Mac Foundation has announced the Philadelphia region
launch of its signature Wednesday’s Child adoption program. Since
1992, the program has succeeded in finding loving, permanent homes
for more than 600 children in foster care and raised awareness about
the need for more adoptive homes. »
